Governor Announces Funds in the State Budget to Increase Wages for Direct Support Professionals
We are proud to recognize our administrators, parents, staff and advocates from IAHD who joined with thousands of others in the #bFair2DirectCare event that took place at the NYS Capitol. As a results of this huge lobbying effort, Governor Cuomo, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan attended the event and bore witness to the Governor’s pledge that he would not sign this year’s budget unless there was an allocation of 55 million dollars in wage increases for these noble workers. As a result of the huge effort that took place this year, including letter writing, phone calls and rallies, our most deserving Direct Support Professionals can look forward to an increase in wages effective January 1, 2018. These efforts reaffirm the commitment of our legislative leaders to ensure that all workers are paid a living wage. It is also an acknowledgment that Direct Support Professionals are a valued part of the New York State workforce. Thank you everyone for your efforts in advocacy!
