Developing and Recognizing Leadership Key Retreat Activities
The key note speaker at the retreat was Dr. Joel Nunez, who delighted and educated audience members on best practices for maintaining their own sense of self-care and well-being, despite the daily challenges of managing work and family. This presentation was followed by a panel discussion on the practices and policies of the Justice Center, and audience members enjoyed the opportunity to interact and ask questions of the panelists. After a delicious lunch, smaller workgroups tackled topics on workforce development, maintaining physical and emotional health, and increasing positive and professional interactions with others.
IAHD was especially proud of its two honorees at this year’s event. One honor was given to Mary K. St. Mark for her leadership and commitment to the Residential Retreat program. Also recognized was Yvonne Popley, a staff member at IAHD since 1982. Ms. Popley has been the manager of the 266 St. residence for well over two decades. In this position, she has assisted people, who formerly lived in institutions, to assimilate into community living. Also, many staff who worked under Ms. Popley’s mentorship have advanced into other leadership positions throughout the agency. We recognize, commend and thank Yvonne for her years of service and devotion to the agency, as well as to the people who benefitted from her vigilance and care.
